Rare "I Can Dig for Gold" California Cutlery Hilt Bowie Knife by Woodhead, Howard St. Sheffield. Having 7-inch polished steel clip-point blade, the left side etched with legend: A Californian/Ask for Nothing But What is/RIGHT/and Submit to Nothing That Is/WRONG, [etched Federal eagle holding bag of coins in beak marked: 10,000. Below that an etched riband reading: I Can Dig Gold From Quartz, and below, the legend: Californian Bowie knife. ricasso stamped: Woodhead/Howard St./Sheffield.] Flat oval German silver crossguard. Cutlery handle with raised floral and shell pattern devices. Contained in original gray leather scabbard with gilt trim and German silver mounts. German silver belt stud. Condition: Excellent with light storage and handling wear. Overall length: 12 inches. Blade measures 7 inches and handle measures 4.75 inches.
