Estate from a Prominent Restaurateur
Lot 1:
Rare Haviland hand painted porcelain covered tobacco humidor jar with attached pipe stand and three cups for matches. Impressed mark HAVILAND DEPOSE to the underside, circa 1853-1865. Approx. height 11.75 in.
Condition: There is gilt enamel loss throughout particularly along the edges – commensurate with age and usage. The interior of the lid with stress cracking and possible old repair/re-sealing – likely caused from contact with the mouth rim of the body. There is fracture or firing crack which is stable and likely original to the piece – see image #4. There is a small chip on the rim of the mouth of the humidor; not distracting. There is a loss to the ‘crown’ on two of the match holders see image 6. Stress cracks to underside of base with old repair/re-sealing. All items are sold as-is where-is. With all faults and errors.
