Important Map of Paris by Guillaume De L’Isle, Full Title: Plan de la Ville et Fauxbourgs de Paris. Dressee sur les observations astronomiques de l’Academie Royale des Sciences et sur les operations geomr. de Guillaume De l’Isle Ier. Geogr. du Roy de la meme Academie. A Paris, chez l’Auteur sur le Quai de l’HOrloge avec Pr. Juin 1716. Derozier sculpt. This is a double-page folio with hand coloring. This map shows Paris before the construction of Baron Haussmann’s parks, radial roads and plazas in the 1860’s – it is still a largely medieval city on this map. The map appeared in De L’Isle’s Atlas de Geographie of 1731. Note: Verso with original sales receipt from Societe SARTONI & CERVEAU, 101 Rue de Seine et 16, Rue Saint-Sulpice PARIS – VI, dated 27.6.72. Framed under glass approx. 25 x 32 in., sight 19.62 x 26.5 in.
