Massive and highly important Sikhote-Alin Meteorite. Weighing in at 394 lbs/177 kg and measuring at its largest dimensions 33.25 inches tall, 16 inches wide, and 6 inches deep. Meteors of this size do not come up publicly for sale often. It would not be out of place in any of the world’s museums. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to acquire such a massive and highly desirable meteor. Comes with custom built iron stand which measures 74 inches tall. The stand holds the meteor in place in 2 approx 1.5 inch deep natural divots in the meteor.
Like all iron meteorites, the current offering is more than four billion years old and originated in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. This extraterrestrial sculptural form was once part of the molten iron core of an asteroid that broke apart — a portion of which was deflected into an Earth-crossing orbit. This meteorite was found in the Sikhote-Alin mountains in Russia in 1947.
