This is a one of a kind, hand thrown and fired pottery chess set. This set was created in 1992 by two Atlanta pottery artists: Sara White and Lois Ellis. It was on display for many years at what is now known as the Spruill Art Center. The original price tag was $10,000. Each playing piece was meticulously crafted by hand, fired then painted. The set took approximately 335 days to create. The base is also a work of art and does comes apart. Set is accompanied with vintage Lane table for display. Base blocks are 33.5 inches on each of the four sides. The blocks are approximately 8.75 – 9 inches in height. Largest chess piece is 19.25" in height. The smaller is 5.5".
