Early Valentine's Estate Auction
Lot 2:
Palatial and fabulous antique American Victorian era stained glass landing window having an architectural form, the upper portion centered with lion mask with berried laurel cartouche, the base with columns further decorated with heraldic symbols, the center with family crest headed with Mercury wings flanked by flambeau torches. The window painted and fired and layered with plates of stained glass. Approx. height 78.5", width 68.5", depth 1.75".
Condition: There is a mirrored beveled glass panel to right and left upper corner – obviously added to the additional frame – both later. There are hand fractured jewels – some are faceted. Glass is tight to the frame with ‘rebar’ supports and areas of double plating. There are some minor scattered repairs, fractures (some hairline and tight, a couple loose) as well as a couple of losses. Overall, the window is in very good stable condition. Glass would benefit from cleaning – some overspray which does comes off. There wear is commensurate with age and usage.
